Laura DiVilio-Rebick In our culture, the disappearance of the "divine feminine" coincides with the gradual withdrawal of humanity's participation with nature. Without "her"--the vision of nature as a sacred living unity where humanity belongs--without "her" as a part of our whole consciousness, we become lost. As our lives become more complex and hectic, we often lose our sense of ourselves. We may feel empty, lonely. We yearn for something more. We long for a moment of tranquillity, a grounding ritual, someone who will honour us with their compassionate listening. We crave a sanctuary and support for our hearts and souls. The creative, generative, ecstatic dance between the feminine and masculine forces can only maintain its balance, its rhythm, and its life, through feeling, intuition, and Eros. Where are our daily, seasonal, family rituals that keep us in the service of our collective soulmaking? How can we bring back the feminine dimension to the collective image of the divine? How can we create space in our lives for the contemporary experience of the archetypal feminine as a sacred, inspiring entity? In the search for the "new feminine" myth, we invite the Goddess to help us understand how both the feminine and masculine ways of being become integrated in order to fully experience the divine. In mythic terms, the union of these two forces is called "hieros gamos" meaning sacred marriage. Thus, the fusion of transcendence and immanence, spirit and matter, mind and body, to create soul. The new myth requires us to love what is feminine: our bodies, our creativity, and our animal natures. It asks each of us to participate as a co-creatrix of the regenerative energy of divinity. We foster an attitude of reverence toward feeling, intuitive knowing, and the connectedness of all consciousness on Earth. It requires us to bear our freedom responsibly, consciously recognizing that all is sacred. Our experiential explorations include creativity, visualization, movement exercises, and ritual. We hold a sacred space and time in which to share thoughts and feelings, expanding our hearts and souls. We embrace our deeper connections to ourselves, each other, and our homes. Together, in a safe and nurturing place, we learn the art of sacred living.
